(Trinidad Guardian) The 32-year-old man accused of chopping to death his sister and brother-in-law have been remanded into custody.
Rajindra Jagroop appeared virtually before Princes Town senior magistrate Indira Misir-Gosine charged with the murders of his older sister Monica Jagroop, 35, and his brother-in-law Anterro McQueen.
He faced two other charges of attempted murder and wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
The charges stemmed from an attack in New Grant on November 7.
McQueen, 52, and his wife Indra Jagroop, 42, sister of the accused, were at their Farmer Trace, Sancho Road home when a man allegedly called out to them.
McQueen was chopped on his neck and head.
When McQueen’s wife ran to assist, she was also chopped.
Indra’s left hand was severed in the attack but doctors were able to reattach it at the San Fernando General Hospital.
On hearing the commotion Jagroop’s father 72-year-old Manickchand Jagroop went outside and was also chopped.
The man then went to Monica’s home, a few houses away, and chopped her multiple times.
McQueen and Monica died at the scene.
Police had launched a search for Jagroop who they said could have assisted them with the investigations.
He was eventually arrested by officers of the Eastern Division last week Thursday in a forest camp at Guayaguayare.
The police also found a cutlass which has since been sent for analysis to determine whether it was used in the attack.
The matter was adjourned to December 7.
