Dear Editor,
It is simply appalling the living conditions of the Venezuelan immigrants in Region One. Surely this situation did not just happen but was in the making, progressively over time.
The authorities ought to have known about the squalid conditions and the attendant consequences which are derived from such, and should have put measures in place much earlier to not only bring immediate relief but find long-term solutions.
Once the country accepted these immigrants then we have a duty, obligation and responsibility to ensure their lives and livelihoods are assured.
As usual it is only when matters are highlighted and brought to the fore that frenzied action is taken in an effort at damage control and mitigation.
Yours faithfully,
Shamshun Mohamed
