A Colombian national who was attending court for an assault charge grabbed the complainant and choked her while in the courtroom.
The Guyana Police Force reported that Alberto Jose, a Colombian national, who made his appearance at the Wales Magistrate’s Court yesterday, jumped out of the prisoner’s dock and choked the virtual complainant. Jose, who had been charged with unlawful assault of Yulerdy Caromota, a Venezuelan national, choked the woman for some time while the matter was being heard in a courtroom.
According to the police, the incident happened at about 12:00 hrs when the man, who was in the prisoner’s dock, jumped out and held onto the woman’s neck in the presence of the magistrate. It was also disclosed that the man was handcuffed at the time.
A police constable who was working in the courtroom managed to restrain the man and escort him to the lockups.
Jose has been remanded until March 30, for the assault charge he had appeared in court for.
