Guyanese youth all-rounder, Matthew Nandu, produced with both bat and ball to give West Indies under-19 ‘B’, an eight-wicket win in their third warm up match.
Playing at Coolidge Cricket Ground in Barbados, West Indies U19 ‘B’ won the toss and put West Indies U19 ‘A’ to bat first. They were bowled out for 239 in 49.3 overs, and in reply, West Indies U19 ‘B’ reached 240 for two in 40.3 overs.
The 18-year-old left-hander, Nandu, demonstrated his patience during his 170-minute stay at the crease. The Everest Cricket Club first-division player frustrated the bowlers as he struck eight boundaries during his unbeaten 85 from 98 balls.
Nandu, who lost his opening partner, Nicholas Lewin for six, also lost Justin Jaggessar for 21 but saw his side home with Jordan Johnson as the pair shared an unbroken 202-run partnership.
Johnson smashed 13 fours and a six as he raced to an unblemished 111 not out from just 104 balls. Jaden Carmichael (1-26), and Andel Gordon (1-39), were among the wickets.
Earlier, Nathan Edward was the pick of the bowlers taking 3-45 with support coming from Nandu who bagged 2-34 with his off-spin and Vasent Singh with 2-47. Shiva Sankar, McKenny Clarke, and Anderson Mahase picked up a wicket each.
Shaq Paris top scored with the bat, hammering seven boundaries on his way to 60 from 84 balls before being bowled by Singh. Paris added 81 for the third wicket with Kevin Wickham who made 55 from 71 balls before being dismissed by Nandu. Giovonte Depeiza (49) and Carmichael (22) also had decent starts.
