Princes Street man charged with assaulting ex, cop

A man, who police say assaulted his ex-girlfriend, was also charged with assaulting the peace officer who went to arrest him.

The accused, Jason Roberts, 40, of Lot 121 Princes Street, Georgetown, has since been released on $60,000 bail.

Roberts on Monday appeared virtually via Zoom before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Roberts pleaded not guilty to six charges, including assault of a police officer. It is alleged that on November 7, at Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted Nikesha Ward to cause her actual bodily harm. It is also alleged that he breached a protection order in relation to Ward made against him by verbally abusing her. Another charge alleges that he maliciously damaged a fence and gate valued at $26,000, property of Jermaine Junior. It is alleged that at the East Ruimveldt Police Outpost, he unlawfully assaulted Delon Sullivan, a peace officer acting in the execution of his duties. Roberts denied that he also damaged a shirt valued at $5,000, property of the peace officer. Finally, he denied that at the police outpost, he behaved in a disorderly manner.

The court heard that this was the first time Roberts was being charged and that Ward is his ex-girlfriend. Magistrate Bess released Roberts on $10,000 bail for each charge.

He was ordered to return to court on January 3.
