MVP Sports has committed one million dollars in sponsorship towards the Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/Kashif & Shanghai Super 16 Cup, according to a release from the local governing body.

According to the correspondence, the presentation occurred Thursday at the sporting suppliers Giftland Mall outlet,  Liliendall. GFF President Wayne Forde received the cheque from the company’s Managing Director, Ian Ramdeo, on behalf of the tournament organizers.

Ramdeo said, “After the tumultuous year and a half that we’ve all had in sports and all other aspects of our daily lives, we thought it was an excellent initiative to be part of this … for footballers to get some playtime and exposure. But also for the fans to enjoy the game again in a safe way. We want to be a big part of this, not only in this particular event but going forward in 2022 as well.”  Forde praised the company for supporting sports.

“As leaders, we all have a responsibility to improve the quality of life for our young people and when corporate Guyana takes that faithful step to climb on board and support sports in general, then we are meeting that obligation.”

The GFF will stage three tournaments during the traditional year-end period.

“The GFF-K&S Super 16 Cup to be held over the period December 12 – January 1, the GFF Women’s Super-16 Festival 2021 to be held over the period December 11 – January 2 and the GFF-K&S Futsal Championship to be held over the period December 14 – January 8 will be played in venues across the country, including in Georgetown, Buxton, St Cuthbert’s Mission, Providence, Leonora, Linden, New Amsterdam, Bartica, and Essequibo. All participants including players, coaches, staff, match officials, and fans will be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination to access the competitions,” the release from the federation stated.
