The majority of persons currently hospitalized at Guyana’s Infectious Disease Hospital, at Liliendaal, are pregnant women, according to Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony.
During his daily update on Friday, Anthony reported that there were 63 persons hospitalized with COVID-19 across the country, including 38 at the Ocean View facility.
“Another thing to note is that of the 38 persons we have at the Ocean View hospital, 23 of them are pregnant women,” he said.
He then went on to make an appeal for persons to get vaccinated against COVID-19, while voicing his hope that citizens understand how serious the virus is.
Government has arranged for expectant and breastfeeding mothers to be given their choice of available Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson and Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines.
