An Essequibo family is now mourning the death of a 16-year-old labourer, who fell from a high steel structure at a rice mill on Saturday afternoon.
Dead is Amar Dindyal, of Dryshore, Essequibo Coast, who was working with a private contractor at the rice mill, located at Vilvoorden, when he suffered the fatal injuries.
According to Priya Dindyal, the mother of the deceased, her son left to work with the private contractor. However, around 15:00 hrs another worker called her and informed her that her son fell and they were taking him to the Suddie Public Hospital.
The teenager succumbed to his injuries around 15:15 hrs.
The woman noted that her son had a fear of heights. “He can’t take height and based on our understanding he fell off a steel structure. He fears height,” a relative added.
The contractor has since reached out to the family. The deceased is the eldest son of his single mother and would usually support her financially.
