Team Guyana’s campaign got off to a rocky start during the first two days of the inaugural Junior Pan American Games in Colombia
In badminton, Akili Haynes, Priyanna Ramdhani and Tyrese Jeffrey all went down in straight sets. Haynes lost to Guatemala’s Christopher Salvador, 6-21, 11-21, while Ramdhani was defeated by the USA’s Natalie Chi, 5-21, 2-21.
Jeffrey was more competitive against Brazil’s Donnians De Oliveira, losing 8-21, 5-21.
The pair of Haynes and Ramdhani lost 2-0 in their mixed doubles match versus players from Brazil.
In squash, Shomari Wiltshire lost in the second round of the men’s singles. Wiltshire lost 8-11, 5-11 and 2-11 to Ryan Picken of Canada. He had earlier defeated Venezuelan, Sebastian Ruiz 3-0 (11-4, 11-2, 11-2), while compatriot Samuel Ince-Carvalhal went down 3-11, 7-11, 5-11 to Jeremias Corjeno of Argentina.
The pair also lost 4-11, 9-11 in their doubles match.
In boxing, Travis Inverary (69kg) lost on all five of the judges scorecards in his international debut bout against Yeferson Ramos of Colombia.
Alesha Jackman (64-69kg) and Patrick Harvey (63kg) were set to take the ring last evening.
In swimming, Aleka Persaud finished eighth in her first event yesterday, the 100m butterfly.

Guyana is being represented in seven disciplines at the multi-sport event: badminton, boxing, athletics, squash, table tennis, weightlifting and swimming.
Weightlifter, Esther Nurse is scheduled to be in action today, while the track and field and table tennis action will start on Tuesday.
