A young Don Robin Farm farmer lost his life yesterday after the tractor he was operating turned over and pinned him underneath, leaving his family in a state of shock.
Dead is Adrian Samuel Singh, 20, of Don Robin Farm, Corentyne.
According to his uncle, Manoj Singh, the young man and his father left home around 6 am yesterday to head to Vryheid, West Canje Berbice, to work on their rice field.
However, just before midday, Singh was informed that the tractor his nephew was working on had toppled and pinned him in the mud.
The uncle and other relatives rushed to the scene where after some time they were able to remove the young man’s body from under the tractor. In an unconscious state, they rushed him to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The deceased, who resided with his parents and two sisters, was described as a hardworking and caring young man. His uncle pointed out, that from a young age the boy would accompany his father to the rice field. “He know this work good”, his uncle noted yesterday.
Over the years a number of tractor operators have died in accidents such as this.
