Three persons who attempted to bribe lawmen at the Golden Grove Police Station, East Bank Demerara have been arrested and are likely to be charged today.
Police in a statement yesterday said two males and a female attempted to bribe a police officer with $700,000 in cash in a bid to forego prosecution.
One of the males, a 37-year-old was initially arrested on two warrants for fraud.
The man, while in custody, requested a call to his lawyer which was facilitated by the police. Shortly after the call, his attorney arrived and moments later a female arrived with a package.
Police said the package was handed over to the detained male, who later ask to speak with the investigating officer during which he attempted to bribe the officer.
The investigating officer while in the company of another officer, the police said, immediately told the male of the offence committed and cautioned him.
The statement from the police explained further that thereafter, the female visitor and the 38-year-old male were contacted and told of the offence of conspiracy to commit a corrupt transaction with an agent.
They were cautioned, arrested and placed in custody pending further investigations and charges.
