A West Ruimveldt man died on Saturday and three others were hospitalised after the vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a utility pole along the Mocha Access Road, East Bank Demerara.
Dead is Euclin Joseph, 49, of Lot 270 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Police in a report on Saturday said that the motor car with registration number PSS 7652 was travelling at a fast rate when the driver Aaron Rodrigues, 21, of Lot 4 Freeman Street, East La Penitence Georgetown, lost control of it and collided with the utility post.
In the car, along with Rodrigues, who is a special constable attached to the escort section, were the now deceased; Raymond Joseph, 39, of Lot 270, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown; Samantha Andrews, 32, of Lot 69 Ogle Street, Triumph, East Coast Demerara; and Lashana Young, 32 of Lot 1748 Providence, East Bank Demerara.
Police investigations disclosed that the occupants sustained injuries about their body. The injured passengers were rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where they were seen and examined by a doctor on duty. During the examination, Euclin Joseph was pronounced dead while the others were admitted for medical attention.
Police said a breathalyzer test conducted on the driver returned negative and he is in custody assisting with the investigations.
