A taxi driver was yesterday charged with stealing a city magistrate’s cell phone and denied bail after a court heard that he is facing other charges.
Omawalie Caesar, 39, called ‘Wallie,’ of Lot 1235 ‘B’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in a Georgetown court. He denied that on November 23, at Battery Road, Kingston, Georgetown, he stole a Samsung Note 9, valued at $200,000, which was the property of Senior Magistrate Leron Daly.
According to the Police Prosecutor, on the date mentioned at about 17:15 hrs, Magistrate Daly secured her car, which the phone was left in. Upon returning, she observed that the phone was missing. She then made a report to the police and following investigations, CCTV footage was retrieved. The footage showed Caesar removing the phone from the vehicle.
