The section of Merriman Mall where fruits and vegetables are sold was yesterday cleaned up in a campaign spearheaded by the City Council’s Solid Waste Department.
The “cleanup campaign” was led by Solid Waste Director, Walter Narine, and his team, assisted by vendors and staff of the City Council and follows a report in this newspaper of the dreadful state of the area.
When Stabroek News spoke with Narine, he informed that the exercise began around 8:30 yesterday morning. Tractors brought skip bins for the garbage to be put into and disposed of at the approved dumpsites.
