Former Minister of Finance Winston Jordan was arrested this morning on allegations of misconduct in office and was told that he would be charged.
He subsequently fell ill while at the Sparendaam Police Station and is now at a private hospital.
Jordan after being informed that he would be charged was transported from the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) headquarters on Camp Road to the Sparendaam Police Station.
Attorney Roysdale Forde told Stabroek News that Jordan complained of feeling unwell while in police custody at the station.
He was then escorted to the Plaisance Health Centre for medical attention. His blood pressure and blood sugar levels were above normal and he was displaying symptoms of cerebrovascular complications.
He was administered medication and recommended for further medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
However, his attorneys requested that he access medical attention from a private hospital where he is currently admitted and under medical supervision.
