PhotosCart serviceBy Stabroek News December 5, 2021 A passenger about to be transported through the flooded stelling Carts ferrying people across the flooded stelling, while others wade through the floodwater Some passengers wading through the floodwater With a spring tide resulting in the flooding of a section of the Parika Stelling yesterday afternoon, enterprising cart operators wasted no time in finding a new way to make money. Charging $100 per person, the operators ferried the ‘passengers’ through the floodwaters. Many of them were on their way to board the speedboats to cross the Essequibo River. While most of the people opted to cash in on the cart service, a few of them chose to remove their shoes and wade through the water. Sunday Stabroek was told that yesterday was the third day that the tide had reached to such a height. Sandbags lined the front of the stelling and next to it where a few stalls and a boat building workshop are located. The sandbags successfully prevented the water from escaping unto the roadway.
