The Guyana Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation says that it is currently awaiting permission from the COVID-19 Task Force to have a live audience at their flagship National Senior Championships on December 19 at the National Cultural Centre.
This is according to a release disseminated to the media yesterday.
In the release, it stated that the body has written to the Task Force suggesting that the same guidelines and protocols that were used for the hosting of the Sports Conference be implemented along with making it compulsory that, upon entry, attendees present their vaccination cards evidencing full vaccination against COVID-19.
The release also stated that permission has already been granted for the use of the National Cultural Centre for the event and on competition day, all athletes, backstage personnel and the executive of the federation will abide by all protocols as gazetted by the Ministry of Health.
While on stage, athletes will be required to stand six feet apart from each other. While backstage, athletes will be required to wear their masks and to maintain the mandatory physical distancing. Judges will be seated six feet from each other and will be required to wear their masks.
This competition is the first Seniors Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships since 2019 and has so far attracted the financial support of the National Sports Commission, Fitness Express and several other business entities and individuals.
On the night of the competition, there will be about 30
athletes competing in the three different segments. These are:
1. Bodybuilding;
2. Bikini
3. Men’s Physique
An official list of athletes will be presented on the 16th day of December.
To date some of the athletes registered are: Darious Ramsammy, Christina Ramsammy, Rosanna Fung, Nicholas Albert, Emmerson Campbell, Yannick Grimes, Colin Cheney, Marlon Bennet, Lyndon Kennedy, Brian Singh, Odel Crum-Ewing, Asanti Conway, Gail Karim, Jonathan Jeffery, Julio Sinclair, Ronaldo Caldeira and Joel Caldeira.
