Police are on the hunt for two bandits who allegedly beat and robbed two sisters at their La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara home on Tuesday night.
The attack occurred around 9pm after the bandits gained entry into the house through the veranda.
One of the bandits was armed with a gun, while the other had a knife. They carted off more than $200,000 in cash and other valuables.
The house is occupied by two sisters, ages 29 and 20. The police did not disclose the identities of the women but said that the eldest sister works as a waitress while the other is a cashier.
According to a Guyana Police Force report, enquiries revealed that the eldest sister went to the veranda and saw the bandits approaching. Fearful, the victim screamed, causing the suspect who was armed with the gun to discharge a round in her direction, the police said.
The bandit, police further said, pulled the woman into the house where he demanded money as he took possession of the other valuables.
As the woman failed to provide the cash, the police added that the bandit dealt her a blow to her forehead with the gun, causing her to sustain injuries.
Her sister, the police said, then handed over her purse containing $15,000 cash and other articles to the bandits. The bandits made good their escape through the veranda door.
