Just over a year after taking the plunge into the world of entrepreneurship, Indira Jaipersaud appears to have taken to business like an idiomatic duck to water.
Crazy Cart GY, an online shopping service, is intended, Indira says, “to cause online shopping to become much easier for persons who are either unable or simply ‘can’t be bothered’ to take on the task for themselves.” Her mission, she says, “is to deliver a hassle-free on-line service at a reasonable cost.”
But that is not all that she does. Apart from being a business owner, Indira manages a blog, titled ‘The INFEM,’ which has set itself the mission of helping to empower women.
Rapid growth has challenged Indira to continually improve the quality of her service to customers and that, she says, is one of her current preoccupations.
The journey from ‘scratch’ to where Crazy Cart GY is today was not, Indira concedes, an easy one. What pleases her most, these days, is that a generous measure of business growth has created a barometer with which to measure the extent of her accomplishment. That said, Indira says that she continues to search for new ways of improving the service which she affords her customers.
Prior to her Crazy Cart venture, which began in June last year, Indira worked as a teacher at a private school in Bartica. “Teaching was not my first career choice but it was one that I enjoyed,” Indira says. “Interacting with children was my happy place and I dedicated myself to moulding those young minds.”
It was her own excursion into the world of parenthood that triggered her resignation from her teaching position. She needed to find time for her twins and she says, “to enjoy them grow.”
Crazy Cart GY was born out of Indira’s savings. Expansion has grown out of the re-investment of much of her earnings from the enterprise and she now believes that the enterprise is on a much firmer footing.
Over time she has been able to offer her customers the facility of acquiring goods from some of the more popular online retailers, including Shein, Fashion Nova, and Amazon. Crazy Cart GY, Indira says, also offers its customers goods at “the best prices.” The company has been able to reach most of its customers through the vehicle of Facebook and purchases can be made directly from the page or by WhatsApp.
Crazy Cart GY has also established agencies at Georgetown, Parika, Bartica and Berbice.
Business growth has not stopped Indira from dreaming. “Although the business is thriving, there is still a lot more that can be done to expand its reach,” she says. Going forward she is seeking to pursue training in business management; this, in order to take her enterprise ‘as far as it can go.
Managing an online business is not without its risks and frustrations, Indira says. “Cancelled orders is a risk that we must run. It results in a waste of both time and money. Because I am not completely business-trained I am not entirely aware of how to avoid that kind of pitfall. We lose and we learn,” she says.
Arising out of her experience, Indira is contemplating the creation of actual stores in Georgetown and Bartica “that will meet the requirements of extra small and plus size customers.” It is, she says, “a gap in the market that needs to be filled.” As a goodwill gesture, Crazy Cart GY is currently pursuing a ‘toy drive’ to bring a measure of Christmas cheer to less fortunate children. It is, Indira says, part of her way of ‘giving back. The toy drive concludes on December 18.
