A homeless labourer has been remanded to prison after a city court heard that he broke and entered a stall and stole cash and articles totalling over $1.8 million.
Gopaul Ramjattan, 27, who said he lives on the streets, was brought before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Wednesday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. He denied that between May 10 and May 11, at Orange Walk, Bourda, while in the company of others, he broke and entered the stall of Marvin Charles and stole $1, 812,000 in cash as well as a quantity of cigars, cigarettes, lighters and rolling papers amounting to $50,000 in value.
