Dear Editor
Over the years, I’ve watched on in amusement and disgust, as various persons vied for party leadership of the PNC. Whilst I’m a supporter of the PNC, seeing the attitudes of many had me considering my sanity. But looking on, I’ve come to the conclusion that many who are contesting for that position, are not interested in our beautiful Guyana, or the party, but for the humongous benefits that comes with the position. Many of those contesting, seek to destroy others, and the party, along the path, without giving a second thought, except for their selfish gain. Instead of working for party and Guyana, in unity and caring with a purpose, they instead work to subdue each other. During my brief stint dabbling in politics, I encountered many interesting characters and after interactions with them, I’ve successfully made my assessment of them. Editor, since I’ve started working for the PNC, one of the most remarkable and dedicated persons I’ve met within the party, is Aubrey Norton. He definitely has an interest in the party and the betterment of Guyana as a whole. Norton is the only person I know travelling with, who enjoys listening to East Indian music. Even though he doesn’t understand the words, he admits he enjoys listening them. Regardless of where we are, his preferred meal comes from the roadside food stand/carts. And, he’s never too busy to speak to anyone. Many were surprised that he wasn’t given a ministerial position after the APNU /AFC won the 2015 election. In my eyes, he was greatly wronged, and whereas many would have thrown in their towel, like a warrior, he stood strong and continued fighting. Many I’ve spoken to are supportive of him, and are of the opinion that he is the best person capable of leading the party and giving the government a strong challenge. At present, Guyana is without a strong opposition, all because those that should be, are more interested in their own agenda.
Sincerely,
Sahadeo Bates
