An operation by officers of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) on Saturday led to the confiscation of 38.3lbs of cocaine and the arrest of a Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo man.
CANU on Saturday night in a release on Facebook said during a stop and search operation ranks discovered 15 brick-like parcels suspected to be cocaine in a motor car. At the headquarters, the parcels were tested and proven to be cocaine.
The cocaine had a total weight of 17.4 kg (38.3lbs) and a street value of more than US$552,000 (approximately $113,160,000), CANU said.
At the time of the discovery, the motor vehicle was being driven by a Ryan Da Silva. He was the lone occupant of the vehicle.
The man was taken into custody and escorted to the anti-narcotic unit’s headquarters.
