The bus conductor who was seen in a viral video stabbing another bus conductor will be spending Christmas in jail after being charged with the man’s murder.
Twenty-seven-year-old Paul Junior Lynch, of Lot 1276 Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday over the murder of Morven Nurse.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan read the charge to Lynch which stated that on December 15, at Commerce Street, Georgetown, he murdered Nurse, 30, of Haslington, ECD. He was not required to enter a plea and was remanded until February 21.
This newspaper previously reported that Nurse was stabbed once in his chest during the incident which occurred around 11 am at Commerce Street, Georgetown. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he succumbed while undergoing emergency surgery.
According to a police report, investigations revealed that Nurse and the suspect were at the Route 44 bus park when an argument erupted. Nurse was armed with a brown-handled knife and they pelted each other with empty beer bottles and bricks before the stabbing happened. Lynch allegedly stabbed Nurse in the left side of his chest.
Nurse was able to run a short distance before falling to the ground while Lynch escaped in a minibus. Reports suggested that the argument erupted over $120. In a video which captured the argument between the two men, Lynch who had a knife in his hand picked up two bricks and threw them in the direction of Nurse. Nurse who was across the road and had a beer bottle case in his hand tried to avoid getting hit and made an attempt to pelt Nurse.
The sound of glass shattering was then heard and Nurse was subsequently seen staggering. Hours after the stabbing, a wanted bulletin was issued for Lynch who later surrendered with his attorney.
