Heavyweights, Fruta Conquerors, romped their way into the semi-final stage of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/Guyana National Women Football Association (GNWFA) Super-16 Festival, dismissing Lethem 11-0 yesterday at the National Training Centre, Providence.
Fresh off their 8-0 humbling of Moruca, it was third largest margin of defeat in the tournament, as the trio of Shanic Thornhill, Shamya Daniels, and Sandra Johnson, recorded a combined eight goals in the lopsided encounter.
Thornhill fashioned a helmet trick in the 31st, 44th, 53rd and 55th minute, while Johnson bagged a brace in the 20th and 60th minute with Daniels tallying a double in the 7th and 89th minute. The trident of Jessica Teasdale, Jalade Trim and Angeline Rieure, completed the rout with conversions in the 27th, 69th and 70th minute respectively.
Wayne St Jules, head coach of Fruta Conquerors opined, “It was a good game but we overpowered them. In terms of possession we had the advantage. Their frontline was good but defensively we were not better. The performance was not as a good as the first game because of the temperature, but our fitness is high at the moment.”
The tournament continues tomorrow at the same venue with another elimination fixture.
