Two men were yesterday arraigned at two Magistrate’s Courts to answer to possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking charges.
Ezera Greene, 36, was arraigned at the Linden Magistrate’s Court where he was released on bail after Magistrate Wanda Fortune read the charge to him. It is alleged that on December 21, at the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, he had 1.24 kilograms of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking. He pleaded not guilty and was released on $200,000 bail. The condition for the bail is that he reports to the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) Headquarters on the last Friday of every month until the conclusion of the case.
The matter was adjourned to January 26, for report and disclosure.
According to a CANU release, officers attached to the unit conducted a surveillance operation near the Linden bus park at Stabroek, Georgetown, on the day in question. During the operation, they identified two individuals entering a motor vehicle. The CANU ranks followed the vehicle out of town, down the East Bank corridor, and onto the Soesdyke Highway. The vehicle was eventually stopped and a search of the vehicle and its occupants was conducted during which a brick-like object suspected to be containing narcotics was discovered concealed in the vehicle. The driver and the occupants of the vehicle were then escorted to the CANU Headquarters, Eve Leary. The suspected narcotic was tested, weighed, and determined to be foreign-grown marijuana known as ‘poppy’. According to the release, the street value of the illicit substance is $1,000,000.
Meanwhile, Kabir Samsoodar was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where Magistrate Rhondel Weever remanded him for having over two kilogrammes of cannabis in his possession.
One of the two charges against Samsoodar alleges that he had in his possession, 1.182 kilogrammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. The other alleges that he had in his possession, 1.193 kilogrammes of cannabis, for the purpose of trafficking. He pleaded not guilty to both charges and was refused bail.
