(Trinidad Guardian) Hours after news broke that Rizanne Roach-Lucas, 26, who was six months pregnant, was found shot dead in her car at Todd’s Road in Talparo, close friends are crying out for justice.
Roach-Lucas was killed on Wednesday afternoon.
Yesterday her childhood friend Chenaniah Harper, in a Facebook post, urged people with information about the woman’s murder to speak out.
“This one time I am begging y’all. Please do your job and find the perpetrator.
Please allow us to see justice for our loss. My sister did not in any way deserve this and it would be nice if at least she can Rest In Peace knowing that y’all cared enough to get her and her unborn child the justice any citizen of a Republic deserves. Please do your jobs,” Harper stated in his post.
Speaking with the Guardian Media briefly yesterday, Harper said he and Lucas were friends since the age of three and he considered her to be his sister.
Roach-Lucas was originally from Trincity and recently moved in with her boyfriend.
Harper said Lucas was about six months pregnant with her first child.
Police were told that she went to Talparo to finalise the purchase of land.
“This was her first property acquisition. She already had property and was unable to claim it due to a family dispute.”
“The story also does not make complete sense. She was shot in the face and then the money she had to do the transaction was taken,” he added.
Harper said Roach-Lucas went straight from the bank to Todd’s Road to make arrangements to purchase the property.
Harper described Lucas as a “shining light.”
“Her smile could light up your day. The most supportive friend you could ask for. Always there with advice and love and the necessary bouff if you doing nonsense. Always humble.
“She lost her mother at a young age and that caused her to value herself and love who she loved even more,” he added.
Harper said Lucas, a scholarship winner, returned to Trinidad and worked at the Ministry of Arts and Culture for a bit before going into the private sector.
She was awarded the open scholarship by the Government in 2014 for Visual Arts.
“She was a magnificent painter and had hopes of showing her latest works. She was literally the last person you’d expect to get shot and killed. She stayed to herself and her routine. Barely ventured out off route like that,” Harper added.
Police said officers received a report on Wednesday just after 12.30 pm that a woman was found dead in a car at Todd’s Road.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers met two men—a 26-year-old man and a 61-year-old man both from Ojoe Road, Sangre Grande.
The younger man told police that he last had a conversation with Roach-Lucas via cell phone around 11.36 am and they agreed to meet at the location to conduct a land sale.
Police were told that the men saw the vehicle parked and when went closer saw the 26-year-old woman was shot dead.
Police said Roach-Lucas was the 30th woman murdered for 2021 so far compared to last year when 54 women were killed.
