Traditional giants Sparta Boss, Gold is Money, and North East La Penitence clinched quarterfinal berths, while Berbice All-Stars continued their fairytale run, when the Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/Kashif and Shanghai Organization Futsal Championship continued on Thursday evening.
Sparta Boss brushed aside California Square 5-1 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue. The quintet of Sheldon Shepherd, Jeremy Garrett, Eusi Phillips, Nicholas MacArthur and Gregory Richardson scored in the 13th, 14th, 17th, 28th and 29th minute respectively.
For the losers, Antwone Vasconcellos scored in the 27th minute. Similarly, Gold is Money made light work of Foot Steppers compliments of a 3-0 score. Andrew Murray bagged a brace in the fifth and 17th minute, while Trayon Bobb scored in the eighth minute.
On the other hand, North East La Penitence edged newcomer Team Vengy 4-3 on penalty kicks, after normal and extra time ended 5-5. Lennox Cort fashioned a brace in the 18th and 22nd for North East La Penitence, while Lindy Gardner, Jamal Cozier and Carl Tudor found the back of the net in the ninth, 37th and 40th minute correspondingly.
For the losing side, Alberto Hernandez registered a hat-trick in the 12th, 21st and 32nd minute. Adding goals in the 20th and 37th minute were Jose Vasquez and Jomnni Basabta respectively.
Meanwhile, Berbice All-Stars upset Melanie by a 4-3 score-line. Tyrese Williams fashioned a hat-trick in the win while Dane Johnson recorded a solitary conversion. For the other side, Phillip Williams, Denze Junior, and Clevon Barnwell were on target in the loss.
The tournament continues on Tuesday at the same venue with the quarterfinal matchups.
In the opening match at 19:00hrs, Leopold Street will lock horns with Renegades, while the second matchup at 19:30hrs will pit Gold is Money against North East La Penitence. In the third encounter, Sparta Boss will match skills with Berbice All-Stars from 20:00hrs, while in the feature affair, Back Circle battles Bent Street at 20:30hrs.
