Thirty-year-old Joshua Samuels Gill of Bonasika Creek, lower Essequibo River, Region Three has two wishes and that is for persons to help him rebuild his home and for him to acquire a boat and engine.
Gill, a father of six, said that his house went up in flames on December 30, 2021 and he lost everything in the process.
The father was with his family at a farm and when he returned home saw his house on fire. He had a two-storey, well-furnished house.
Gill, still coming to grips with the situation, said that he has lost all his family’s documents including birth certificates, passports and vaccination cards, etc. He is currently staying at a relative’s abandoned house on the Bonasika Creek.
“I am staying here until we can move again, everything went up in flames I still cannot believe. However, I will like to get back on my feet and I will like to do so fast, I am not lazy I can work,” Gill said.
He said that he loves farming and earns a living from that. He is still surprised how the fire occurred because he does not have electricity but is thankful that his family was not home.
When asked if the children are attending school, the wife Levita Gill said yes. She said she is ensuring that her children receive an education. The family said that they enjoy living at Bonsika and want to continue living there providing that they get their house rebuilt.
The family lost all their clothing, household items and furniture to the fire.
On Saturday last the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha and other groups provided relief items to the family.
