The Guyana Government has issued a Request for Information (RFI) on firms with the capacity to provide engineering, procurement and construction services for 33 megawatts peak (MWp) of solar power.
The RFI appeared in Sunday’s edition of Kaieteur News. It noted that the government has earned financing from the Guyana REDD+ Investment Fund (GRIF) under the Guyana-Norway partnership and intends to apply part of the proceeds “to payments under the Contract for Engineering, Procurement and Construction of 33MWp of Solar Photovoltaic Plants with Battery Energy Storage Systems”.
The RFI noted that the financing will be administered in accordance with the policies of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
According to the RFI, the programme will be executed by the Guyana Power and Light as part of the Guyana Utility Scale Solar Pho-tovoltaic Programme (GUYSOL). The works will be done at eight sites: two in Region Two, three in Region 10, one in Region Five and two in Region Six.
The advertisement said that the RFI will facilitate a survey of the market to evaluate the firms with capacity to execute the works described. It emphasised that it the RFI not a short-listing or a prequalification exercise.
Eligible firms are invited to submit the information by January 17, 2022.
The money from the Norway arrangement which will enable these solar projects had originally been intended for the Amaila Falls Hydro-power Project. The reallocation to solar projects was approved in June of 2019. US$80m is available from Norway. Oslo uses intermediaries such as the IDB to oversee the disbursal of funds.
