Dear Editor,
The first thing the ordinary citizen asks after learning about a renewable energy is, “How much will it cost for me?” Therefore the Prime Minister and Minister of Energy in https://dpi.gov.gy/pm-hopeful-caricom-solar-plant-will-help-promote-renewable-energy/ is really dashing hopes that the CARICOM Secretariat solar power system will help promote this kind of renewable energy. The reason is simple. The US$7M cost is eight times the current prices for 400 kW, even with an energy management system. With that kind of price the only projects it helps promote are oil and gas related projects for enrichment of the fossil fuel companies getting a non-taxable 85.5%, while Guyanese companies and citizens pay their taxes to a government that is incapable of comprehending the technology of exploitation and of auditing its natural resources and finances.
Sincerely,
Alfred Bhulai
