A 45-year-old pedal cyclist succumbed at a city hospital on Saturday, days after he allegedly rode into the path of a motor lorry along the Parika, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) Public Road.
Dead is Collin Mendonca of Hydronie Village, EBE.
The accident occurred around 12.30hrs last Thursday.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said investigations revealed that the motor lorry was proceeding north on the western carriageway of the public road, allegedly at a fast rate when Mendonca who was on the eastern carriageway of the said road rode into its path.
As a result of the collision, Mendonca was picked up in an unconscious state and escorted to the Leonora Cottage Hospital.
He was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where he succumbed to his injuries around 08.50hrs Saturday.
The driver of motor lorry, GZZ 2284, a 27-year-old resident of Tuschen, EBE was arrested. He is likely to be charged soon.
The accident was captured on surveillance footage which was retrieved by the police.
