The Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) has now expanded its Chess in Schools Programme with the addition of two secondary schools
The Bishops’ High and Anna Regina Secondary, are the latest schools join the online training programme.
According to a press release from the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF)
Bishops’ High School Physical Education teacher Daniel Benjamin and Headmaster of the Anna Regina Secondary School Lalljeet Rooplall are the archicetcts of their schools involvement.
Over 30 students from the two schools are now engaged in training which commenced January 9th and is set to continue over the next six weeks, stated the release.
“The initiative targets youths aged seven to 15 at all skill levels, but older students are also able to participate,” the release stated.
The GCF’s online training restarted this year with over 60 new entrants and 60 continuing students from over 20 schools countrywide.
“Some of the country’s best and brightest minds have eagerly grasped at the opportunity to learn the game,” the release stated.
“The federation’s goal of discovering new talent and expanding the reach of the game to every region in 2022 is well on its way despite the pandemic.
“More than 100, seven to 15-year-olds have been exposed to chess over the recent months thanks to the proactive use of technology by the GCF.
“The GCF Chess in Schools Team continues to promote the game and is willing to collaborate with any group that is interested in the development of the sport and Guyana’s children,” the release ended.
