Overseas-based Guyanese, Dr. Tulsi Dyal Singh has renewed his sponsorship of Berbice cricket for this year.
According to a release from the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), Singh plans to pump some $2.1m into the coffers of the BCB.
The Palmyra, East Canje-born medical doctor, will invest $2.1M into the game.
According to the BCB, $650,000 will be used to purchase two more cricket covers for the county, $875,000.00 will be utilized for a county-wide coaching programme and $575,000 will be used for hosting a county-wide cricket academy in July for some 70 youths.
“I am very impressed with the work that the Berbice Cricket Board is doing and I am even more impressed with the way, my funds are been accounted for,” Singh was quoted as saying in the release.
“I am proud to be associated with the board and it gives me pleasure to continue my support,” he added.
According to the BCB’s release, the longtime supporter of Berbice cricket, between, 2018 to 2021, invested over $7M to assist the Hilbert Foster-led BCB.
Hilbert Foster, BCB president, said with Dr. Singh’s assistance, the BCB was able to conduct widespread coaching sessions across the county and also host special coaching clinics for every department of the game, mini-academies, and county-wide cricket academies and properly prepare Inter-County teams.
Dr. Singh’s sponsorship also assisted the BCB to restore its office to international standards, provide every club in Berbice with a five-gallon water pitcher and purchased over 20 grass cutters for the BCB’s ambitious ground enhancement project, the release stated.
Dr. Tulsi also provided funds for the BCB’s historic coaching manual which was published late last year and he has also invested heavily into the BCB aggressive `Say Yes to Educational Programme,’ the release stated.
Foster, in the release, hailed the cooperation of Dr. Singh, noting that he was one of the main reasons why his term of office has been so successful.
He reassured Dr. Singh that his funds would be used for the intended purpose and that every cent would be accounted.
“The BCB, as it has always done, would provide regular reports with newspaper clippings and photos to the donor. Special emphasis would be placed on coaching in 2022 as the BCB strives to identify the next set of Berbice players,” the release stated.
According to the BCB release, coaches including Winston Smith, Leslie Solomon, Travis Hardcourt, Balram Samaroo and Delbert Moore will be dispatched across the county to all the clubs with junior sections. Additionally, the BCB will work along with Cricket West Indies to have at least 20 additional Level One coaches in the county as part of its comprehensive developmental programme.
The BCB in 2022 also hopes to complete a coaching video to go along with the manual, the release stated.
