The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GTT) has once again collaborated with the Ministry of Health’s Chronic Disease Unit to provide free pap smears screening for 500 women, a release from the company said.
As it observes Cervical Cancer Awareness month, GTT’s Pinktober Coordinator, Diana Gittens said the company is delighted to partner with the Chronic Disease Unit to provide free pap smears.
“Last year we saw more women utilising the service, which means that more women are becoming aware of cancer, and that early detection can save their lives. This year, we look forward to more women taking advantage of this free service to know their status and acting swiftly where necessary,” Gittens said.
National VIA Coordinator at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Martin Campbell thanked GTT for its steady support in raising cancer awareness and providing the means for free pap smear screening.
While the Chronic Disease unit of the Ministry of Health has started observance of cervical cancer awareness month with Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) screening and awareness activities, the team will now include free pap smears screening in other communities.
