The police further said that eyewitnesses reported that the woman asked the suspect to leave her mother’s premises and he then pulled out a knife from his waistband and stabbed her in the region of her heart. She was able to walk a short distance before collapsing. The suspect escaped after dropping the knife.

When Stabroek News visited the Sophia crime scene, the police were still investigating and the young woman’s body was still at the door of her mother’s apartment. Her mother, siblings and other relatives were in deep mourning.
Latisha Fields, the mother of deceased who was at work at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home when she received the call about the attack, tearfully explained that Simon and the suspect broke up sometime last year and she had since moved on.
According to Simon’s current boyfriend, they had been together for a number of years and were expecting a child together. He said that Simon was just over two months pregnant.
Fields informed that her daughter was visiting her home and had been making curry at the time of the unwelcomed visit of her ex. According relatives who were at home at the time, the man went to the yard, called for Simon and when Simon went out to him, he asked for water. After asking for the water, the man asked for another glass but his request was denied. He then asked to use the washroom and pushed the bottom half of the Dutch doors. Simon was standing at the door with the bottom half closed. This newspaper was told that an argument ensued between the suspect and Simon, who reportedly leaned over the door and pushed the man, who then stabbed her.
The deceased’s mother said that the man was constantly abusing her daughter. The woman said that the suspect had even threatened to kill Simon on several occasions before they parted ways last year. She said that up to Wednesday the man went to the woman’s home, which she shared with an aunt. At the time, Simon was not at home and the aunt told the man to leave her niece alone. Further, Fields said Simon never visited her home and she is unaware of how he gained knowledge of its location.
