The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has announced a 15-man squad for the first and second rounds of the West Indies Championship with Anthony Adams and Clinton Pestano making their return to the national team.
The Guyana Harpy Eagles will play the Windward Inlands Volcanoes from February 9-12 and the Leeward Islands Hurricanes from February 16-19.
Both matches will be played at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad.
Leon Johnson will continue to lead the side while all-rounder, Keemo Paul, will serve as his deputy. The squad features most of the core players who were integral to their success in the past where they won five of the last six seasons.
Among those returning are left-arm spinner, Adams, who enjoyed success during the three practice matches in Guyana.
All-rounder, Pestano, also makes a return after missing most of the last season due to injury.
Tevin Imlach and Akshaya Persaud were also named along with West Indies spinners, Veerasammy Permaul and Gudakesh Motie. Shimron Hetmyer is also among those listed.
West Indies and Guyana Amazon Warriors’ Kevin Sinclair leads the list of seven reserve players while his Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club teammates, Kevlon Anderson and Junior Sinclair received their maiden call ups. Berbice seamer, Demitri Cameron is also in the mix as well as Ronsford Beaton who was recently cleared to bowl once again.
The squad and reserves are currently engaged in the third and final trial match at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence after which preparation will continue with intensive practice and fitness training under watchful eyes of the team management lead by Head Coach, Esuan Crandon.
