The Berbice Bridge entrance located in Region Six has now been furnished with streetlights.

The Regional Vice Chairman, Zamal Hussain, on Facebook said that 24 hours after a request was made the government embarked on lighting the entrance during the region’s Community Cleanup Project yesterday.

According to a statement posted to Hussain’s official page, the process was facilitated and supported by President Irfaan Ali, Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall, and Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar – who were all on the ground in the region yesterday participating in the cleanup.

Drivers have appealed in the past for lights to be placed throughout the entrance as only a few poles were initially lighted at the location, and, especially since the road is surrounded by an empty open pasture on one side and trees on the other. Further, animals would often be on various sections of the road throughout the evening.

A number of Berbicians took to social media last evening to express their appreciation at the lights finally being placed throughout the road.
