The University of Guyana on Friday evening kicked of its virtual convocation ceremonies for graduands for the academic year 2020/2021.
The ceremonies were officially opened by Chancellor of the University Professor Edward Greene. During this first of four ceremonies held last evening, graduands from the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, and the School of Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation, were officially conferred with their degrees, diplomas and certificates for courses that they would have completed while at the university.
Taking the title of valedictorian for the class of 2020/2021, is 27-year-old Davendra Kissoon, who successfully completed a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Civil with Environmental Engineering with a 4.0 Grade Point Average (GPA). For his achievement he was conferred with the President’s Medal for Best Graduating Bachelor’s Degree student.
Kissoon in a short address during the ceremony reminisced on his many experiences during his time at the university and spoke highly of the institution. He encouraged those in the field of engineering to take their work seriously and implored them to work hard and achieve their goals.
A convocation ceremony is to be held today for graduands from the College of Medical Sciences, College of Behavioral Sciences and Research, and the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
Meanwhile on February 11, the Faculty of Social Sciences is expected to have its ceremony while on February 12 the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Education and Humanities, along with the Institute of Distance and Continuing Education are scheduled to have their ceremony.
