Quincy ‘Ego’ Lacon has secured a spot in this year’s Calypso Monarch Competition final and is optimistic of a win with his song “World Boxing Match”, which focuses on fighting COVID.

The song was recorded two weeks ago through Ssignal Productions and submitted for the auditions. Quincy learnt of its selection this week.

The singer explained that with COVID-19 still impacting the world at large, he thought it only fitting to release “World Boxing Match”. It has been almost two years since the world has been devastated by the pandemic, the singer said, adding that it is a long-standing match between the people and this virus and it is about time the people conquer it.

However, he believes there is only one path to success in this and stands by his song which encourages persons to social distance, wear their face masks, get vaccinated and take their boosters as part of doing what it takes for the safety of themselves and the human race.

Quincy first competed in the Calypso Monarch Competition in 2020. This will be his third consecutive year. The last two competitions saw him finishing in fourth place both times. This time he is looking to take his game up a notch and cop the coveted title.

“World Boxing Match” is one of two songs the singer released recently. His other song, “Looking For a Wife” is of the Soca genre. The single, which was also recorded and produced by Ssignal Productions, was released on Wednesday.

“Looking For a Wife” was sent up for the Soca Monarch auditions but was not selected.

Quincy, who now has a Facebook fanbase owing to his popularity in local comedy, has also won many of these fans over with his music. Since his announcement of making it into the Calypso Monarch Final, there have been lots of positive vibes, the singer enthused.

The Lindener who has been on the local music scene for 13 years was awarded the Linden Soca Monarch title in 2016.

He acknowledged his fans noting that he is where he is today because of them. He also congratulated his fellow contestants in the upcoming competition and said he is looking forward to battling it out with them. The competitions are slated to be hosted virtually between February 17 and 20.

To listen to either of the singles, fans can look for the songs on YouTube at Ssignal Productions or Quincy Talk Out, or on Facebook at Quincy Lacon.
