The body of Wakenaam businessman Lakeram Kuber, who went missing after a boat mishap in the Essequibo River on Thursday evening, has been found.
The body of Kuber, 54, also known as ‘Ramesh,’ of Belle Plaine Wakenaam, was found on Saturday morning. His remains were taken to the Wakenaam Cottage Hospital, where he was officially pronounced dead by a doctor.
Kuber had gone missing after the boat in which he was travelling in capsized in the Essequibo River on Thursday evening.
He, along with the boat’s captain, Feroze Amin, and another man, Floyd Dazzell, was returning from Supenaam, Essequibo Coast, when the boat capsized.
The men decided to swim to shore but only Amin and Dazzell made it.
Kuber’s relatives were too traumatised to speak when they were contacted.
A close friend said that the deceased was a very helpful person on the Island and his sudden death was a great shock to the other residents.
He is said to have had a ship and would usually transport cargo. He also did farming before he ventured into the shipping business.
The man’s body is currently at the Sandy’s Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
