A twenty-six-year-old man has been charged with attempting to murder a man whom he gave his grandmother’s sliding glass door to keep.
Tishawn Mackenzie, of Tucville Housing Scheme, Georgetown, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court. He was not required to plead to the charge which states that on January 19, at Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, with intent to commit murder, he wounded Robert Samaroo.
According to the police, the men know each other and on the date mentioned, Mackenzie went to Samaroo’s home to collect a sliding glass door that he gave to Samaroo after he (Mackenzie) stole it from his grandmother. The court heard that the two men then got into an argument and that Samaroo walked away from the man, but Mackenzie, who was armed with a piece of wood, dealt the man several lashes. The victim sustained injuries to his head and body and was subsequently hospitalised. The police prosecutor further informed the court that the man suffered injuries to his temporal region, left brow and left ear and that the lacerations were 6-7 inches in length. His injuries are potentially life threatening and may result in possible disability.
The prosecutor also noted that the matter was reported but Mackenzie was not arrested until yesterday after police conducted a stakeout and were able to apprehend the man. The court also heard that Mackenzie has been threatening Samaroo.
Following an objection to bail by the prosecutor, Mackenzie was remanded until February 15.
