Two young men are now remanded prisoners after being charged over a choke and rob attack on a businessman.
Chris Pollard, 21, and Jamal Delph, 25, appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly on Friday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. The two men denied that on February 8, 2022, at Croal Street, Georgetown, they robbed Riaz Ahmad of an iPhone 6S, valued at $48,900, and $700 cash.
According to the police, Ahmad, 33, was attacked and robbed at about 11:45 hrs. It was said that Pollard attacked him from behind, choking him, while Delph took the items from his pocket. Ahmad was left unconscious after the men fled. He, however, later made a report to the police, who arrested the duo at separate locations.
The police prosecutor told the court that Pollard is on bail for other similar charges. The man has been granted bail for a series of charges and was previously sentenced for the theft of a phone.
The prosecutor objected to bail for both men and stated that the grounds for the objection are that the offence is serious and attracts a serious penalty. The men were not granted bail and the matter was adjourned until March 11.
