Elite Pageant Company – Guyana has acquired ten titles, which will be awarded to the most suitable candidates to represent Guyana internationally following their participation in Elite Pageant – Guyana 2022.
The company plans to host one competition instead of ten and award the most suitable finalists with the appropriate titles. Registration for this contest closes on February 28. The 2022 titles that will be awarded are: Mr Model of Tourism World Guyana, Miss Model of Tourism World Guyana, Miss Teen Universe Guyana, Mr Grand International Guyana, Miss Tourism International Guyana, Miss Glocal International Guyana, Miss Tourism Global Guyana, Miss Teen Empress Guyana, Miss Empress Guyana, and Mr Elite Guyana.
Each title will have a first runner-up who must be prepared to take on the duties should the title holder be unable to fulfil same.
Applicants, men and women, must be at least 17 years old or no older than 30 by December 31, 2022; have never been married, divorced or have children.
CEO Roshini Boodhoo, a former Miss Guyana, shared that so far there have been 51 applications, from which 16 semifinalists have already been shortlisted. After applications close and the shortlist is completed, the contestants will engage in preliminary challenges, from which only the best will be selected to compete in the finals.
The first will be the Domestic Violence Awareness Challenge. Roshini explained that domestic violence can be meted out in a number of ways: physical, mental, emotional, financial and through sexual abuse. As part of the challenge, contestants will be tasked with taking a photo of themselves portraying one of these forms.
Contestants who complete the preliminary challenges will be awarded a quarter of a point, while the winner of each challenge will be rewarded an additional quarter of a point. For every four challenges completed, contestant will acquire one point adding to their overall score.
Photos of the top three in each preliminary challenge will be shared on the agency’s social media pages as part of the multimedia challenge. The winner of the Multimedia Award will be determined by the most votes received on social media.
Roshini noted that she first learnt of this sort of competition where top contestants are awarded titles of varying pageants through references made to the Philippines doing a contest of a similar nature. There are many advantages to a competition of this kind, she said, including credibility with the pageants falling under one umbrella, and less expense, but overall, it serves the bigger picture of having more people working together on local projects in the interest Guyana.
Pageant contestants are usually either required to find a platform or is assigned one. Elite Pageant Company – Guyana is looking to do away with this as according to Roshini, contestants are tasked with advocating for a platform and do not have the network support. In this competition, contestants who share similar passions will be placed into groups. Roshini believes that in doing this, following their participation at pageant level, they will have network support on future collaborations and can go on to create their own organisations, advocate for social issues, engage in humanitarian outreaches and be more successful than if they were to do so individually.
Preliminary challenges Roshini added are a great way to evaluate an individual’s creativity, planning, punctuality and discipline so that only the best of the best represent Guyana at the international level. Contestants will also compete in a Question and Answer Segment which is said to be a fraction of the Intelligence Segment. In arriving at the ten deserving contestants, a team of distinguished judges will allot the titles to those who secure the top compounded scores.
The preliminaries will also work in favour of the judges instead of exhausting them with everything on coronation night.
Contestants will participate in National Costume, Beach Wear, Runway, Tourism Speech, Talent, Evening Wear and Question and Answer segments. For Beach Wear contestants can choose a two-piece, one piece or shorts.
In the Runway Category, contestants parade like fashion models and it is from this category that the Top Model is chosen.
As part of the theme Elite Pageant will focus on Panthera Onca – the jaguar. In keeping with the theme, contestants will be required to design and wear animal prints for the Runway Category but can also use leopard and cheetah prints.
Semi-finalists will be given letters aiding them in requesting sponsorship.
The ten-in-one pageant is slated for May/June this year. And Roshini shared that Elite Pageant is looking to expand by adding a Mrs title in the lineup as part of being inclusive status-wise.
The Elite Pageant team includes Director and Business Development Specialist Raveena Mangal who is also the reigning Miss Model of Tourism World and Miss Model of Tourism World Guyana; official photographer Draystudio.gy and official makeup artist Blush Makeup Artistry by Filisha Singh.
The agency extends an invitation to the members of the business community and other interested persons who are keen on partnering with them in making this journey successful.
