Guyanese left-hander, Shimron Hetmyer, will turn out for Rajasthan Royals this year while Jason Holder and Nicholas Pooran also attracted big buys in the 2022 Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) auction yesterday.
Guyana Amazon Warriors’ Hetmyer, who played for Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals in the past seasons, was caught in the middle of a bid-war between Royals and Capitals as his base price of 1.5 crore rocketed to 8.5 crore, equivalent to US$1.13 million.
Meanwhile, former West Indies captain and number one-ranked Test all-rounder, Holder, was snapped up by newbies, Lucknow Super Giants for a whopping 8.75 crore or US$1.16 million,
Pooran also attracted a hefty payday as he was secured by Holder’s former team, Sunrisers Hyderabad for 10.75 crore or US$1.43 million, making him the highest earning West Indian in the history of the IPL.
Both Holder and Pooran were listed at a base price of 1.5 crore.
Also securing a bid in this season’s IPL was Dwayne Bravo who was reunited with Chennai Super Kings for 4.4 crore.
Ishan Kishan was the highest sold player of the day, going to Mumbai Indians for 15.25 crore or US$2.02 million.
Big guns, Shakib Al Hassan, Steven Smith, Suresh Raina, David Miller, Matthew Wade, Umesh Yadav, Adil Rashid, Imran Tahir and Sandeep Lamichhane were all unsold.
The second day of the auction will unfold today with Guyanese Sherfane Rutherford, Keemo Paul and Romario Shepherd all in the mix.
