Two Corentyne men have been held over the raiding of a tomb at Hampshire Cemetery on Thursday evening.
On Friday last, relatives of Vishnu Samaroo, also known as “Antonio”, 19, who died on January 18 after losing his battle to stage four cancer, discovered that his tomb had been broken into and his body tossed aside.
The young man was buried three days after he succumbed.
Police Commander of Region Six, Boodnarine Persaud, yesterday confirmed that two persons were arrested on Friday over the grave robbery.
The men: Roopchand Thomas also known as “Lil Shawn” 19, and Leon Scott, 25, both labourers of Hampshire Squatting Area, Corentyne, are expected to appear in court today to be charged with damage to property and simple larceny.
According to the Commander, investigators were also able to retrieve the phone which was stolen from the tomb.
There had been reports circulating in the community that Samaroo had been buried with valuables.
