Lady Jags stay perfect with 7-0 drubbing of Turks and Caicos

The Lady Jaguars continued their perfect campaign in the Concacaf ‘W’ Championship Qualifiers, which also serves as the pathway for the 2023 FIFA World Cup, brushing aside hapless host Turks and Caicos 7-0 Saturday night at the TCIFA National Academy ground in Turks and Caicos.

The Lady Jags were led by a hat trick from Mariam El Masri supported by double strikes from Cameo Hazlewood and Hannah baptiste.

Guyana’s dominance was crystal clear in the first half as they record a mammoth 15 shots three of which resulted in goals against their 174th ranked foe, who didn’t record a solitary effort.

Guyana led 3-0 at lemon time.

In total, Guyana tallied 35 shots which further highlighted the lopsided nature of the contest.

Hazlewood commenced the rout in the 10th minute, stabbing the ball past the advancing goalkeeper after an initial strike from outside the box, was deflected into her path.

Baptiste doubled the advantage in the 30th minute, directing her powerful header into the top left corner, after latching onto a left sided corner kick.

The first half demolition was completed in the 40th minute when  Hazlewood sealed her double compliments of a lobbed right footed effort into the top right corner from outside the centre of the penalty area.

The carnage resumed in the 48th minute as El Masri converted from the penalty spot into the lower left corner, following a foul inside the area.

A curling left footed shot into the top left corner from outside the centre of the penalty area by El Masri in the 61st minute pushed the score to 5-0.

A goal mouth scramble in the 72nd minute further ballooned the scoreline, as Baptiste stabbed the ball into the back of the net following a right sided corner kick. 

The rout was then sealed in the 84th minute when El Masri completed her hat-trick, converting her second penalty into the lower left corner.

Guyana’s starting XI comprised Chante Sandiford, Rylee Traicoff, Sydney Cummings, Kayla DeSouza, Shyla Murray, Mariam El Masri, Brittany Persaud, Hannah Baptiste, Otesha Charles, Cameo Hazlewood, and Shaylynn Bentley.

The Lady Jaguars have been drawn in Group F of the qualification stage for the Concacaf regional competition.

The other teams in the pool are Trinidad and Tobago which they play on April 8 and Nicaragua who they play on April 12. Only the winners of each of the six groups will progress to the final tournament, alongside automatic qualifiers Canada and the United States.
