On Friday last, relatives of Vishnu Samaroo, also known as “Antonio”, 19, who died on January 18 after losing his battle to stage four cancer discovered that his tomb had been broken into and his body tossed aside. Roopchand Thomas also known as “Lil Shawn” 19, and Leon Scott, 25, both labourers of Hampshire Squatting Area, Corentyne, and Shantee Bhudram, 27, of Hampshire Village, Corentyne, appeared at the Albion Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh.
It was stated that between Tuesday, February, 15, and Wednesday Friday 16, Thomas and Scott broke into the property of Amarali Samaroo and stole items and caused damage to the value of $130,000.
The court heard that Bhudram is related to the deceased and was in attendance at his funeral. After she saw valuables being placed in the coffin she returned home and told the two accused and encouraged them to break into the tomb to steal the items.
The three were not required to plead and bail was subsequently denied. However, after Budhram told the court that she is a single mother of seven with her youngest being less than a year old she was granted bail in the sum of $50,000.
The three will return to court on March, 8.
