The Council for Technical and Vocational Education Training (CTVET), Learning Corp and ExxonMobil on Friday announced that the three entities have developed a partnership to train lecturers, instructors and students from various technical institutions on basic industrial safety.
According to a release from the Ministry of Education, a Memorandum of Understanding between the entities was signed to provide basic industrial safety training for lecturers, instructors and trainees in Level One occupational areas.
This pilot programme will equip Guyanese in the field of the internationally recognized Commissioning, Qualification and Validation (CVQ) Level One certificate programme. The release said that New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI) and Linden Technical Institute (LTI) will be the first to benefit from the Augmented Arc Welding Reality and Electrical Training. The two institutions were also provided with the necessary tools and textbooks to be used in the training curriculum.
Further, the Ministry’s release said that three lecturers from NATI were on Thursday certified for the training they received in Augmented Arc Welding Reality. On Friday three other lecturers from the LTI were certified for their training in the same field. Augmented Arc Welding Reality technology allows the trainee to experience the same touch, feel precision and accuracy as in physical welding.
Learning Corp Chief Operating Officer, Lucia MacIsaac, said that the demand for qualified persons trained in electrical and welding will be high. Senior Lecturer of the Engineering Department at NATI, Eon Rich, also commended the programme saying that it will greatly benefit trainees. Deputy Chief Education Officer (Tech), Dr. Ritesh Tularam was present at both exercises.
