Dear Editor,
Where is the Women and Gender Equality Commission? The news is almost stale now that “Businessman and A New and United Guyana (ANUG) Executive, Kian Jabour, was recently charged with assaulting his ex-girlfriend and then released on a mere $20,000 bail, after offering a not guilty plea.” Now let us presume his innocence and await the outcome of the matter. However, what about what took place back in 2020? That was when the said Jabour faced public criticism, after a video went viral, of him verbally abusing a woman and all Facebook users had field days. Now, I am against any kind of abuse, irrespective of gender, class, age etc. The Women and Gender Equality Commission is selective in its practice in terms of when to speak and what to comment on. Secondly, too many are the times when APNU+AFC MPs speak, not just irresponsibly, but derogatively about the MPs on the government side, ridiculing them with the most insensitive comments. These puerile and prurient statements are easily accessible too. There is no denying them.
Sincerely,
H. Singh
