Windies selectors will now have to remodel a new squad in time for next T20 World Cup

Dear Editor,

The recent performance of the West Indies team in their one day and T20 series against India in India recently can only be described as pathetic by West Indian fans all over the world. It was so painful and hurtful to watch West Indies losing games when they were in good positions to win those games, especially in the T20 series.

In this missive I focus on the T20 series, seeing that the T20 World Cup is just a few months away in Australia. West Indies should have won that series 2-1, the second and third matches and I want to submit that the loss was due squarely to the poor captaincy of Keiran Pollard. I would now call on our own Ramnaresh Sarwan to convince his fellow selector, Desmond Haynes, to sack Pollard when they sit to pick the next T20 squad and choose Pooran as captain and Hetmyer as vice-captain. King, Myers, Hope and Bravo should also be dropped. If West Indies hope to do well at the upcoming T20 World Cup, or at least be competitive, then the squad should read as follows: (1) Pooran (Capt), (2) Hetmyer (Vice Capt), (3) Evin Lewis, (4) Chanderpaul Hemraj, (5) Rovman Powell, (6), Sherfane Rutherford, (7) Jason Holder, (8) Odean Smith, (9) Romario Sheppard, (10) Fabian Allen, (11) Akeal Hossein, (12) Sheldon Cottrell, (13) Jaden Seales, (14) Gudakesh Motie, (15), and Alzarri Joseph. Motie’s selection might raise eyebrows, but I want to submit that he is a better bowler than Hossein, and if given a chance, will perform far better than Hossein. Editor, if the selectors pick this squad, I guarantee the West Indies will win the T20 World Cup in Australia. The ball is now in your court Ronnie and Desi.  Step up to the plate and help bring back the glory days of West Indies cricket.

Sincerely,

Imtiaz Baccus
